Faïence, reticulated lip. Opaque glaze painted decoration in French Renaissance style – acanthae, griffins, and in the centre a swan pierced by an arrow, the emblem of Queen Clause of France.

Bowl purchased at the Exposition Universelle of 1889 in Paris.

A closely related bowl, probably a counterpart, is also known from the production of the ceramic workshop of Ulysse Besnard. It presents a salamander, the heraldic emblem of King Francis I of France, whose first wife was Claude of France, Duchess of Brittany and Countess of Blois.
